TL;DR: Your first visit at our Belmar salon follows a simple flow: consultation, shampoo, service, then a finished style. New color or extensions start with a consultation first. New guests get a $20 gift card toward that visit. Bring photos, come a few minutes early, and reach out with any questions before you arrive.
By Alycia, guest coordinator at Styling Company
I'm usually the first person you'll meet when you walk in, and I know a new salon can feel a little uncertain. My whole job is to make sure you feel settled from the moment you arrive. So let me walk you through exactly how your first appointment goes.
What happens when I first arrive?
When you arrive, I'll greet you at the front desk, get you checked in, and offer you something to drink while you settle. I keep an eye on the flow of the day so your stylist is ready for you close to your appointment time. If you're running a few minutes late or you can't find parking on Main Street, just call ahead and I'll help sort it out. We've been on 902 Main Street since 2004, so we know the block well and we're happy to point you to the easiest spots.
How does the consultation work?
Your first visit always starts with a consultation, and it's the most important part. Your stylist will sit with you, look at your hair, and ask about your routine, your history, and what you're hoping for. This is where you pull out any photos you brought. It's also where we talk honestly about what's realistic for your hair type and how much upkeep a look will need. If you're coming in for new color or extensions, that first appointment is a consultation on its own, so we can plan the service properly before booking the time to do it. Nobody likes surprises halfway through an appointment, so we get everything on the table first.
What's the flow of the actual service?
After the consultation, the visit moves through shampoo, your service, and a finished style. You'll head to the shampoo bowl for a wash with our Kevin Murphy products, then back to the chair for your cut, color, or whatever you booked. Your stylist finishes by styling your hair so you can see the full result and learn how it's meant to look. If you want tips on keeping that finish going at home, our guide on why a color consultation comes first pairs nicely with what we cover in the chair. You can review our full services anytime before you come in.
How much will my first visit cost?
Pricing depends on the service, and we're upfront about it during your consultation. A dry haircut is $44, a long haircut and blowout is $56, a medium cut is $66, and a short cut is $86. A barber cut is $45. Color and extensions are quoted after your consultation, since those depend on your hair and the plan we build together. As a new guest, you'll get a $20 gift card toward your first visit, which is our way of saying welcome. If you want to see how we stack up around the area, we get into that in our piece on finding the best hair salon near Spring Lake and the Jersey Shore.
How do I book my first appointment?
You can book online in a couple of minutes. Head to our booking page, pick the service you're after, and choose a time that works. If you're not sure which service to book, start with a consultation and we'll guide you from there. We serve guests from Belmar and across Monmouth County and the shore towns, and we've built a 4.9-star reputation on more than 310 reviews by treating every first visit like it matters. Because it does.
Good to Know
Do I need to book a consultation separately?
For a cut, the consultation is built right into your appointment. For new color or extensions, the consultation is its own appointment first, so we can plan the service and book the right amount of time.
How early should I arrive?
Come about five to ten minutes early on your first visit. That gives us time to check you in, get you comfortable, and start your consultation without feeling rushed.
What should I bring?
Bring a few photos of looks you love, and one of a look you didn't like if you have it. Come with your hair in a fairly normal state so your stylist can see how it behaves.
How does the $20 gift card work?
New guests receive a $20 gift card to put toward the first visit. It's our welcome to you. Just mention it when you check in and I'll take care of the rest.
Can I request a specific stylist?
Yes. We have stylists across Levels 1 through 6, so you can request someone specific when you book or ask me for a recommendation based on what you need.
What products do you use?
We work with Kevin Murphy throughout the salon, from the shampoo bowl to the finishing products your stylist uses to style you.
How long will my first visit take?
A cut and style usually runs 45 minutes to an hour. Color and extension services take longer and we'll give you a clear time estimate after your consultation.
What if I need to reschedule?
Just reach out ahead of time and we'll find you a new spot. Life happens, and we'd rather move your appointment than have you miss it entirely.
Your first visit sets the tone for everything after it, and we take that seriously. When you're ready, book your appointment and come see us on Main Street. I'll be at the front desk waiting to say hello.
